Three Things

1. Yesterday's speedwork was tough, but I did it! We had snow followed by freezing rain yesterday, so I didn't even bother to attempt going outside (heck, I didn't leave the house at all). Instead, I fired up the treadmill at a 2% incline and did it that way. It broke down like this:

Mile 1: 6.7mph (basically 9 min mile)

Mile 2-4: 6X400s I ran each 400 at 8.8 (6:48 min/mile pace) and then rested with a 6.7mph 400

Mile 5-9: 7mph (8:46 min miles)

Afterwards, I just wanted to nap, but I got it done! Speed work on a treadmill doesn't bother me during training, because if i was doing it during the warmer months, it would be on a flat cushioned track, so it's not a huge change to run on a treadmill, except I don't have to pace myself.

2. I seriously love our new oven so much. The banana bread I made on Tuesday actually turned out like bread instead of the dense 80% cooked bread I had been getting for the past few weeks. Yesterday, I made raspberry brownies and they were amazing!

The recipe wasn't anything fancy, just a regular brownie recipe and then I swirled in raspberry jam and baked. Mike and I did go a little over the top and put leftover vanilla frosting on the brownies when we ate them. That may have been a mistake judging by my horrible stomach ache that followed.

3. Tomorrow, I'm headed into NYC for a work meeting which means no sweatpants allowed and I'll have to dry and straighten my hair so it doesn't freeze when I leave the house before 9am. Since I'm going to be gone all day, I'm switching up my running schedule again and taking Friday as a rest day instead of today. It worked really well last week, but, seriously, after yesterday's speed, I'm ready for a rest day. At least today I'll get to test out my Yaktrax I got for Christmas!

What was the last dessert you made/had (healthy "desserts" don't count)?

  1. Great job on your speed work. I will be doing some on the treadmill tonight after work. I'm actually looking forward to it. I hope you have fun in NYC. I just got a new job and will be able to work from home one day per week and I am so excited to wear sweats!

  2. I think speedwork on the treadmill is fine, I mean it's not like you'll be doing 400s during the marathon either, so it's all simulated to just get you used to running faster. And the treadmill is a good tool to get used to a pace!

I think the last dessert I actually made was the peanut butter stuffed hot fudge cupcakes...mmmm....we just ate the last of them out of the freezer. Obviously I'm overdue for some baking!

  4. Great job on your speed work!! When and if I ever do speedwork it is always on the treadmill. I think it's easier to control. Everybody is talking about speedwork, I think it's a hint that I need to be doing that!! It's something I dread but once its over I feel so good!! I need to get back at it!! You did awesome I couldn't imagine doing 9 miles with speed work!!

    Have fun in the city!!

  5. Good job with the speed work! And the 5 miles you ran afterward. Those brownies sound great, I may have to try that. My last dessert was ice cream. Before that, we got a Napoleon from a bakery which waa basically layers of puff pastry and cream.

  6. Mmm those brownies look delicious! The last dessert I attempted in my POS oven was a boxed mix of brownies, and even managed to turn those. Don't worry, I still ate them. Can't let brownies go to waste.

  7. Nice speed work! I usually love 400s except now I'm so out of shape they suck. Either that or I'm super paranoid about getting sick so I don't push as hard as I should.
Last dessert here were some wicked chocolate chip cookies with sea salt. I'm all about sea salt right now.

  10. Those brownies look awesome! Last true yummy dessert was at lunch on Monday before leaving Disney - two chocolate brownies with creamy peanut butter frosting smashed between them. It was delicious.

  11. I have no idea about anything about speed work! The last desert I made was gluten free brownies for my girls.

    1. Gluten free desert? I heard the Gobi has gluten, so that must have been Sahara.

  12. Raspberry brownies? Yum! I haven't baked in a while. Actually, I don't bake very often b/c I suck at it! I love to cook but find I don't have much patience for baking. Probably a good thing for my waistline, right?

Hope your first yaktrax run goes well!
