delicious treats department

There's nothing quite like your birthday to find out how well friends and family know you. Basically, my day was chock full of sugar and it was awesome. After my 10 mile run, I was ravenous all day. We had basic food stuffs in the house, but we were sorely lacking in the delicious treats department.

Then, mid-afternoon, my mom stopped by with an enormous cupcake and Diet Coke.

She was closely followed by Karlee dropping off a hot chocolate and two brownie batter donuts.

I thought about eating all of the above, but felt slightly ill after one donut and the hot chocolate, so I decided to pace myself instead.

Then, on our way out to dinner to celebrate, Mike and I stopped at my in-laws' house to pick up a spectacular surprise:

chocolate raspberry

My SIL, who is an incredible baker and made the cupcakes for our wedding, recreated my favorite of the wedding cupcakes for my birthday. I think I'm going to have to freeze half of them so I don't make myself completely sick by eating only cupcakes for the next few days. It would be worth it, though.

After dinner, which involved a couple glasses of prosecco, I was down for the count and in bed by 9:15pm. Old age is definitely catching up with me.

If you're married, what kind of cake/dessert did you have?

  1. So everyone knows you as the fatty who likes cake. You have achieved much in your short years.

  3. When I saw that picture of the cupcake yesterday, I got instantly jealous and a cupcake craving took over my entire body. I might have to curb the craving with a brownie batter donut today.

Not married, as you know, but I think I'm looking forward to cake tasting more than anything else that comes along with a wedding.

    1. I'll quit my job if I need to in order to fully devote myself to help, as your future maid of honor.

  4. We had a cheesecake for cutting, and pies for everybody else.

    Suck on that, fatty.

  5. The chocolate raspberry cupcake looks incredible! My husband has a strong hatred for cupcakes. We even have a box of them here right now that were given to him as a joke. They are tough to eat so our wedding consisted of regular cake, key lime since we were at the beach!

  6. Yum! Looks like you celebrated the 'right' way! Our wedding cake is a huge sore spot. We had a fantastic cake, every layer a different flavor, and a sweet table. My crazy MIL spoke for a freaking hour between dinner and dessert and effed up the schedule big time. Barely got a bite of cake. Can you tell how important cake is to me?

  7. Happy birthday! That's the best way to spend it!

We have an amazing bakery near here that we use for all our family birthdays. Everyone gets to pick the flavor and design (the decorator is amazing). In the end, an all too expensive cake, but it is SO good!

  8. Obviously this entire post makes me super jealous. I have no idea what kind of cake we had, but I remember it tasting delicious on our first anniversary!

  10. Chocolate...raspberry...must...have....

My wedding is in 3 months, and we're doing an orange cake with raspberry filling....though I was told I can do a flavor for each of the three tiers, and chocolate raspberry is calling...I am the most indecisive bride ever, so I thought picking one was more than enough, but now I know I was totally wrong.

  11. Wedding cake we were supposed to have: chocolate with a chocolate chambord mousse filling layered with fresh raspberries

Cake that was actually delivered to our wedding: marble with hazelnut filling

We did receive a ginormous refund (I got to name my refund - prob could have had 100% but I figured we DID get a cake so I asked for and got 75%) and a free cake on our first anniversary (that one was the correct flavor!).
