Gotein Review and Giveaway

Want to hear something awesome? I've won two giveaways in the past two weeks. I won one from Candice and Stephanie. Pretty awesome, no? Well, because I'm super psyched about my winnings, I just happen to have a giveaway for you kiddos as well.

A little while ago, Anna, from Gotein, asked me if I'd like to try some of their product and offered up some samples for a lucky winner too. Before we get to the giveaway, let me tell you a little about Gotein.

Gotein™ Protein to Go, helps refuel the body, and improves lean muscle mass while burning fat*. Perfect for the sports minded person that needs to perform at their best while exercising or playing a high energy sport.* Drink approximately 1/3 of a 16.9 fl. oz water. Add complete packet of Gotein™ to your water bottle, swirl and shake well until completely dissolved and enjoy a tasty, low carb shake!

They have three flavors, Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry. All are delicious, though I think I prefer the vanilla, which is good because Mike wants all of the Chocolate for himself.

The directions suggest mixing it with 16.9 fl. oz of water and, let me tell you, that's the way to go (you might even want to add less), because too much water and it is not even close to as delicious (yep, I follow directions well).

It's a super fast, easy, and delicious way to refuel after a run, especially if you're like me and you can't stomach real food right after a long run.

I think I should post a little about why I use protein supplements (note: PLEASE read this). Back in February, I posted about considering adding a protein supplement to my diet. I did some research and figured out that I should probably let a professional help me out, since I had no idea what I was doing.

I met with a nutritionist and mapped out my daily intake and exercise level. Based on the fact that I average between 40-60 miles of running per week, my vegetarianism, and my daily diet; my nutritionist advocated for me to add protein on the days when I was running higher mileage. We also modified my diet to get more whole foods and foods with better nutritional value as well.

So, this is all to say that protein supplements are not for everyone. If you're considering using them, it would be wise to talk to your doctor about it and see how they could fit into your current diet or if they are necessary at all. Since unused protein is converted to fat, it's probably best not to add supplements to your diet unless you need it.
